Moving a home is one of the most significant logistical undertakings most families will ever manage. There are timelines tied to closing dates and lease ends, belongings accumulated over years that need to arrive intact, and a new home to settle into on the other side. A-Turner Moving and Storage has been handling residential moves since 1972, and in that time we have developed a process that takes the unpredictable parts of a home move and makes them manageable.
We serve homeowners throughout Florida and across the country - local moves within a single city, intrastate moves between Florida cities, interstate moves to and from other states, and international relocations coordinated through the North American Van Lines network. Wherever you are moving, and whatever your home contains, we build the move around your situation rather than fitting you into a fixed package.
Residential moving services we provide
Free in-home or virtual estimate. Every move starts with a free walkthrough of your current home - in person or via video call. Your move coordinator assesses the volume of items, identifies any access challenges at either address, and gives you a clear itemized estimate before you commit to anything. There are no binding estimates that inflate on delivery day.
Free furniture protection. Every piece of upholstered furniture is stretch-wrapped before it moves through a doorway. We install padded protection on all doorways, floors, and banisters at both your origin and destination. This protects your belongings and protects the property you are leaving - which matters when you are trying to get a deposit back or hand over a home in good condition at closing.
Full-service packing. Our packing team arrives with all materials and packs every room - boxes labeled by room and contents, fragile items individually wrapped, artwork and mirrors protected to professional standards. After delivery we unpack, place items per your direction, and remove all packing materials and debris. You walk out of your old home and into your new one without handling a single box. See our full-service movers page for a full breakdown of what this service includes.
Fragile-only packing. If you prefer to pack most of your home yourself, we offer fragile-only packing so your kitchen glassware, artwork, antiques, and high-value items are handled to a professional standard while you manage the rest. This is a popular option for customers who want to stay involved in the process but do not want to risk the items most likely to be damaged in transit.
Custom crating. For items that need more than padding and boxes - large artwork, antique furniture, custom pieces with unusual dimensions, or anything with significant monetary or sentimental value - we build wooden crates to spec. Custom crating is available as an add-on to any residential move.
Specialty item handling. Some items in a home require more than a standard move. Pianos need to be properly padded, balanced, and secured before transport - a process that is different for an upright versus a grand. Pool tables need to be disassembled, slates wrapped individually, and reassembled at the destination. Large appliances need disconnecting, securing during transit, and reconnecting on arrival. Our piano movers, pool table movers, and appliance movers handle these items as part of your residential move rather than as a separate booking.
Storage between homes. Closing dates and lease end dates rarely align perfectly. When there is a gap between moving out and moving in, our household storage and furniture storage options let you move out on schedule and take delivery when your new home is ready. Our climate-controlled warehouses keep your belongings secure for as long as you need.
Valuation protection. Basic valuation coverage is included with every residential move. Full-value protection is available for homeowners who want more comprehensive coverage on higher-value items. Your move coordinator will explain both options during the estimate so you can make an informed decision before move day.
Free used moving boxes. Every customer can pick up free used moving boxes at our Gainesville warehouse before their move date. Ask your move coordinator when you book.
Types of residential moves we handle
Local residential moves. Moving within the same city or county is priced on an hourly basis with a crew sized to your home. Our local movers handle moves throughout North Central Florida with the same full-service approach as any other move - no shortcuts because the distance is short.
Intrastate moves within Florida. Moving from one Florida city to another - Gainesville to Jacksonville, Tampa to Orlando, or anywhere in between - is an intrastate move. These are priced on a flat-rate basis rather than hourly, and our intrastate moving team handles the full move under one contract with no handoffs to third parties.
Interstate moves out of Florida. Relocating to another state is where our North American Van Lines affiliation becomes particularly valuable. NAVL is one of the largest and most established moving networks in the country, which means your belongings are transported on GPS-tracked equipment by vetted carriers with full valuation coverage. Our interstate movers coordinate the entire process with a dedicated move coordinator from booking through delivery. For moves specifically within the continental United States, see our nationwide movers page.
International residential moves. Relocating abroad involves customs documentation, export crating, and coordination across multiple carriers and jurisdictions. Our international movers handle every step through the North American International network, covering door-to-door delivery to most countries worldwide.
Residential moves for every stage of life
Not every home move looks the same, and the needs of the person moving vary significantly depending on their situation.
Families moving between homes often have the most volume - full rooms of furniture, children's items, outdoor equipment, and often specialty items like pianos or gym equipment that have accumulated over years. A full-service approach tends to work best here, where our crew handles packing, loading, transport, and unpacking so the family can focus on everything else a home purchase or sale requires.
First-time buyers moving out of an apartment into a house for the first time are often making a bigger move than they expected. Items that were fine in a smaller space need to be evaluated for the new home, and the logistics of a first purchase - coordinating with lenders, title companies, and sellers - leave little bandwidth for the physical work of moving. Our apartment movers team handles the transition from rented to owned with the same care as any residential move.
Seniors downsizing or relocating. Moving later in life often means relocating from a larger family home to a smaller property, a retirement community, or an assisted living facility. The process involves decisions about what to keep, what to donate, and what to pass on - and the physical work of moving a lifetime of belongings. Our senior movers approach these moves with the care and patience they require, including flexible scheduling, careful handling, and a move coordinator who stays closely involved throughout.

Planning your residential move
Understanding the timeline of a well-run residential move helps you know when to take each step.
Eight or more weeks out. Request your estimate as early as possible, particularly if your move falls between May and August when demand is highest. Confirm your move date and book your crew. If you are selling your home, coordinate your move-out date with your closing timeline so there is no gap.
Four to six weeks out. Begin packing non-essential rooms and items you will not need before the move. Collect packing materials or arrange for A-Turner to supply them. Notify utility providers, your post office, insurance carriers, and any subscriptions of your new address.
Two weeks out. Pack everything except daily essentials. Confirm your move date, crew size, and start time with your move coordinator. If your new home requires elevator reservations or move-in window coordination, confirm those details with your building manager.
Move week. Keep out only what you need for the final days - toiletries, a change of clothes, bedding, and anything you are transporting yourself. Confirm parking arrangements for the moving truck at both addresses. Do a final walkthrough of your current home the night before to make sure nothing has been overlooked.
After the move. Before your crew leaves your new home, walk through each room to confirm furniture placement and flag anything that needs attention. Your move coordinator follows up after the move to confirm everything was completed to your satisfaction.
